Understanding Emotional Intelligence: The Impact on Organizational Excellence

 Emotional Intelligence is perhaps one of the most misunderstood and therefore misapplied areas of leadership impact in the world today! As a result, lack of Emotional Intelligence is seen as one of the top 3 reasons for leadership failure in today’s business world. It is also a primary factor in failed interpersonal relationships. Being emotionally intelligent begins with a clear understanding and acceptance of one’s level of emotional maturity – self-awareness, self-control, and self-motivation – and their impact on self and others in the world of work.

Whether in the world of business, public service, non-profit, personal life issues, or any other endeavor, people with high levels of Emotional Intelligence are able to change the mood, motivate and re-direct self and others, and ultimately lead the organization to success.

Emotional Intelligence can be the difference-maker for people – leadership as well as any other organizational role. It requires that the individual suspend their own mood and emotions and communicate optimism and a positive vision. It is the difference between behavior that creates dissonance and behaviors that creates resonance.

In this program, we will explore the following key areas of emotional intelligence:

  • Better your personal level of emotional intelligence;
  • Identify negative consequences of unmanaged emotions on your personal effectiveness;
  • Describe the importance of emotional intelligence to building good relationships;
  • Explore the basics of empathy and social skills;
  • Learn key steps to achieve greater self-awareness, self-control, and self-motivation;
  • Understand how emotional intelligence can be applied at the workplace to enhance employee relationships and increase productivity.

People with higher levels of emotional intelligence are poised, outgoing, and cheerful; have empathy for others; express their feelings directly but appropriately; and have a capacity for developing meaningful relationships. All of these are critical in building high-performance organizations of sustainable excellence.
