People are watching….applicants, employees, customers, investors, and more. Your company’s ethics will determine its reputation. Did you know good business ethics are essential for the long-term success of an organization. Why do you need an Ethics Code in your company? If it’s legal doesn’t that mean it’s ethical?  How can having one benefit your profits and protect your company from legal problems? How can NOT having one set you up for problems and financial disaster? The bottom line is that companies should have ethics codes to promote ethical behavior – not to enhance productivity, profits or public relations.  On the other hand…a sound, well-administered code can benefit a company and its stakeholders in a variety of ways.

Ethical organizations develop and maintain strong responsibilities to the general public, their customers, their employees and their investors. Just developing an ethics compliance policy is not enough….organizations need to develop a culture of ethics.  In this class we start with the basics of ethics, then move into business ethics. But how do you develop an ethical culture? How can managers practice ethical leadership? All of these questions and more are be addressed.

HR professionals are in a unique position to help build an ethical workplace culture because their involvement in hiring, training and evaluating employees allows them to influence their organizations at many levels. They are—or should be—both guardians and champions of the ethical culture in their organizations, says Steven D. Olson, director of the Center for Ethics and Corporate Responsibility at Georgia State University in Atlanta. Beginning in 2021, all HRCI recertifications will need 1 credit hour in ethics. This class is certified to provide that credit for your HRCI certification.

Building and maintaining a culture of ethics is an ongoing process and not a quick fix. And while not easy, it may be the most important step in sustaining a healthy organization.
