Internal corporate investigations of employment-related matters such as, sexual harassment, employee misconduct and wrongdoing, and investigations to respond to employment-related lawsuits are becoming increasingly more important in light of the staggering number and variety of employment related lawsuits against employers. In light of employers’ increased exposure and liability for employment-related matters, they now more than ever, must respond with careful and thorough internal corporate investigations in order to gather facts for decisions that impact the resolution of employee complaints, wrongdoing and possible eventual lawsuits.
This workshop will offer participants practical and tactical considerations to consider when conducting employment-related investigations. Discussion will include:
1) The selection of an appropriate investigator;
2) Planning the investigation before commencing it;
3) Conducting thorough and well-documented witness interviews;
4) Preparing and maintaining complete investigation records; and
5) Special considerations and advice related to employment-related investigations.
This workshop promises to be informative and worthwhile for any company representative that now has, or may one day have, the responsibility for conducting a comprehensive employment-related investigation to resolve employee issues or allegations of illegal employment practices. In addition, handouts from the workshop will be useful for any employer representative to implement when conducting an employment-related investigation.
