Human Resource Strategic Planning Workshop

The ability to define, plan, develop, maintain and implement a skilled competent future workforce that meets the strategic needs of the business is one of the most urgent challenges facing organizations worldwide today – both in the private and public sectors alike. This new and innovative workshop has been designed to assist our member organizations in meeting the 21st century challenges of effective strategic human resource planning.

The process of Workforce Capacity Planning is simple. Through this workshop, participants will explore the tools of workforce capacity planning by learning a strategic roadmap for effective human resource planning and development activities needed to ensure a deliberate business-oriented strategic link between existing and future human resource needs and key HR initiatives, programs, processes, and practices necessary to implement full strategic alignment. Participants will learn how to better identify and plan future workforce requirements and thereby can create a deliberate strategic alignment of human resource and business systems thereby enabling more efficient and effective utilization of existing workforce capabilities while working to increase future workforce capacity in meeting defined strategic goals of the business.

Participants will examine the following 5 key process steps of effective Workforce Capacity Planning:

  1. Define, Analyze, & Link Organizational Strategic Direction
  2. Conduct a Comprehensive Workforce Analysis & Environmental Scan
  3. Conduct a Current vs. Future Workforce Gap Analysis
  4. Develop & Implement a Strategic Workforce Capacity Plan through the Executive Team for Strategic   Alignment.
  5. Measure, Monitor and Report on Workforce Capacity Plan Success

Workshop Benefits:

An effective workforce capacity planning process will provide many organization-wide benefits including:

  • Enables a more effective and efficient use of current workers. This is increasingly more important as organizations strive to find themselves having to do the same amount of work or more with fewer and/or less-qualified employees.
  • Ensures planned replacements are available to fill projected vacancies as service and workload requirements continue to increase and/or decrease with a fluctuating economy.
  • Provides more realistic staffing projections for budget and market response purposes. Realistic staffing projections are very helpful when justifying budget requests particularly in a tight economy wherein efficiency and effectiveness have become the defined approach in achieving operational excellence.
  • Provides a clear rationale and process for linking current and planned human resources initiatives and expenditures for recruitment, training and retraining, development, career planning and counseling, linked to the strategic business needs of the organization.
  • Assists in maintaining and maximizing the impact of a more diversified workforce.
  • Provides a linked roadmap for restructuring, reducing, or expanding the workforce as may be required in adapting to changing current or future conditions.
