An astounding 45% of U .S. workers (62 million workers!) observed misconduct in the workplace and did nothing about it. Some 45% of all organizations experience fraud at any given time. Regardless of size or sector, all organizations are vulnerable to workplace fraud and other malfeasances (e.g., harassment, wrongful termination, workplace safety, environmental damage) that can continue unchecked for years. The financial and reputational impact can be devastating. The median fraud incident in over $150,000 and a typical company loses 5 percent of its revenue to fraud. Reputational damage can far exceed that.

  • 40% of all reported fraud is discovered, by employee tips, making it by far the most effective method for discovering fraud. Internal audits were second with 24%.
  • 39% of employees are more likely to report malfeasances if they could remain anonymous, and
  • 56% of cases submitted anonymously resulted in corrective action.

If employees fear retaliation they will not report incidents. The system will fail if employees have no confidence in the confidentiality of the procedure. That is why anonymity is a key factor in getting necessary information.
